Methodology

Strategic Visioning System® Methodology is based on three creative thinking techniques:

  • Association (one variable)
  • Bisociation (two variables)
  • Multisociation (two or more variables)

    Bisociative Brainstorming

When anticipating the next big idea more surprising predictions for the future can be realized by looking at interactive events and the divergence and convergence of technologies with other phenomena in the environment. The Strategic Visioning System® introduces a systematic multi-dimensional approach to the innovative process, called Bisociation Brainstorming™. This concept of bisociation was first introduced by Koestler (1964).

Bisociation refers to “the pattern of perceiving of a situation or idea in two self-consistent but habitually incompatible frames of reference.” Bisociation incorporates the concept of intersecting ideas from two seemingly unrelated things to anticipate the convergence of major ideas. This approach is significantly more robust than logical associative thinking that considers one variable at a time.

    Multisociative Brainstorming™

The Strategic Visioning System extends the concept of bisociation by developing an innovation algorithm that considers Multisociative Brainstorming™ that incorporates more than two variables at a time.
